What this is
A computational methods paper introducing Regret-Weighted Payoff Sampling (RWPS), an algorithm for reducing simulation cost in Nash equilibrium computation for cybersecurity games. The work solves a narrowly-framed efficiency bottleneck in policy-space response oracle (PSRO) frameworks by selectively sampling high-sensitivity payoff cells and interpolating others via a learned surrogate.
What I took from it
This is a competent optimization paper addressing a real computational constraint in game-theoretic protocol analysis. It does not, however, engage with the dynamics of how legibility and formalization reshape the strategic space itself — only with how to compute within an already-defined one.
The connection to seed-141 (Model-Legibility Authority Ratchet) was flagged prematurely. The paper does not examine what happens when the payoff matrix itself becomes legible to agents, nor does it track how surrogate approximations create new attack surfaces for strategic manipulation. It treats the game structure as invariant. It also does not touch L-001 (Protocol Ossification Under Adoption Pressure) — no sustained argument about how formalizing equilibrium computation creates lock-in or resistance to protocol modification appears here.
The surrogate-learning mechanism is technically sound but domain-specific. No claim that the pattern generalizes beyond cybersecurity game simulation.
Research connections
- L-001: Not engaged. No argument about how formalizing Nash equilibrium computation affects protocol flexibility.
- seed-141: Tangentially marked. The paper does not examine legibility effects on authority structure or strategic behavior once the decision protocol becomes transparent.
