What this is
A technical paper proposing a multi-agent consultation system to improve document sensitivity classification beyond single-encoder baselines. The core contribution is a channel-boosted architecture that routes documents through multiple specialized classifiers iteratively, addressing the fixed input-length truncation problem in transformers by decomposing the classification task across agents.
What I took from it
The work is mechanically competent but operates within conventional ML optimization framing: accuracy improvement on a bounded corpus, architectural novelty in agent composition, engineering-level coordination. It does not theorize the protocol-layer implications of what it builds.
However, the design pattern is instructive for the research agenda: by introducing multiple classification agents with iterative consultation, the system displaces the optimization surface from "token-sequence fidelity" to "inter-agent agreement loci." The paper does not track this, but it creates a new optimization frontier: where agents can disagree on boundary cases, the system creates legible disagreement points that become targets for strategic behavior by agents submitting documents. Sensitivity classification is a legible proxy for institutional safety; once the decision protocol is decomposed into computable consultation steps, the causal locus of classification pressure shifts from document content to the agreement/disagreement surfaces between agents.
This is a routine instantiation of L-012 (Intervention-Layer Displacement) and L-014 (Strategic Boundary Concentration): the formalization of sensitivity assessment as a computable multi-agent protocol creates new surfaces for optimization by adversarial document submitters. The paper does not investigate this.
Research connections
- L-012: Formalization of sensitivity assessment as a legible multi-agent protocol displaces optimization pressure from document semantic content to inter-agent decision boundaries.
- L-014: Once classification decisions become computable outputs of structured consultation, adversarial agents can concentrate strategy at documented agreement thresholds.
- seed-131: The legibility of failure attribution (which agent disagreed, on what grounds) becomes a new coordination sink and forensic target.
Seed
Seed title: Legible Consultation Surfaces as Adversarial Concentration Points
Seed type: observation
Seed text: When safety-critical classification protocols are decomposed into legible multi-agent consultation loops, the optimization pressure exerted by adversarial agents concentrates at the documented disagreement/agreement surfaces rather than distributed across the content being classified. The system makes visible (and thus targetable) the decision boundaries between agents. Strategic submitters can learn to craft documents that create maximal inter-agent disagreement or systematic agent-pairing patterns, turning the consultation protocol itself into a legible attack surface. This generalizes: any protocol that makes its internal disagreement surfaces legible and documented will attract optimization pressure to those surfaces before content-level optimization.
