What this is

A multi-agent information theory paper modeling the trade-off between internal memory retention and peer communication under bounded resource budgets. The work characterizes achievable performance regions where agents allocate finite information capacity between storing task-relevant history and receiving external messages, deriving efficient frontiers under specified coordination rules.

What I took from it

The paper is technically competent within the information-theoretic frame but remains a domain-specific optimization problem rather than a law-generating investigation. It confirms L-006 (Coordination Cost Conservation) at a local scale — memory and communication are fungible resources under fixed task constraints — but does not expose the mechanism by which this fungibility breaks down, ossifies, or generates unexpected costs at system scale.

The work does not investigate what happens when agents optimize against the boundary itself, when task definitions shift, when memory legibility becomes a governance target, or when the "decision rule" is endogenized by incentive structure. These are the conditions under which L-006 either holds or fails at the protocol level. The paper is a static resource allocation model, not a dynamic protocol analysis.

Research connections

  • L-006: Confirms local fungibility between memory and communication resources, but does not test conservation under adoption pressure, formalization, or strategic optimization.
  • L-008: Silent on what happens when agents can optimize against the achievable region — e.g., when legible memory becomes a compliance signal or communication patterns become audit targets.
  • seed-046: Tangentially related to memory as coordination substrate, but the paper does not examine how memory formalism becomes a protocol governance lock.

Seed title: none

The paper is a competent technical contribution that instantiates a known resource trade-off (memory vs. communication) without exposing the mechanisms by which that trade-off destabilizes under protocol-layer pressures. It does not generalize beyond its bounded, stationary decision task. Store without escalation.
