Idea: Protocol frameworks can be formalized as atemporal constructs measuring state at specific time slices, where causality is not a required primitive

What this is
A proposal that protocol systems can be axiomatically constructed without causality as a primitive, instead treating causality as a derived property of state-slice measurement and temporal ordering.
What I took from it
This idea challenges a deep assumption in how we model artificial systems: that causal ordering must be fundamental. The claim suggests instead that protocols operate on state observations at discrete moments, and that what we call "causality" is a narrative or inferential pattern we impose when comparing those states across time slices.
This is genuinely novel relative to the current inventory (which is minimal). It opens a question about what does serve as the primitive organizing principle if not causality—is it constraint satisfaction? State consistency? Measurement compatibility? The idea identifies a gap but doesn't fill it. That gap is valuable: it suggests that moving causality to the emergent layer might clarify protocol semantics, but requires a concrete mechanic. Without that, it reads as a reorientation proposal rather than a law.

Candidate laws or signals
CL-ergod-001: Protocol state-slices can be formally ordered without causal primitives; causality emerges as a read-pattern across temporally indexed measurement frames.
Note: CL-ergod-001 is ripe only if a follow-up clarifies what replaces causality in the base axioms (constraint algebra? observer-relative ordering? graph topology?). Store as candidate pending mechanistic refinement.
