Idea: Formalization in π-calculus captures what were previously only informal descriptions
Source: Discord #I imagine the gap is outline in that ZIP (by _ergod) Date read: 2026-06-24 Connected to: L-001 Escalation: store-only Escalation rationale: This idea restates the core mechanism already captured in L-001 (informal-to-formal translation). It adds specificity about which formalism (π-calculus) and what gets encoded (attendant expectations as process terms), but does not propose a novel law or challenge existing inventory. Useful as validation artifact; no escalation needed.
What this is
Formal encoding of protocols in π-calculus transforms previously implicit protocol expectations into explicit process algebraic structure, making protocol semantics machine-readable and verifiable.
What I took from it
The idea correctly identifies that formalization is not merely notational translation but semantic capture—the move from prose to process terms forces expectations to become operational. This is a useful clarification of how L-001 works, not a challenge to it. The specific claim that π-calculus "encodes attendant expectations" is stronger than a generic formalization claim and points toward an important sub-mechanism: protocols contain embedded assumptions about agent behavior, sequencing, and failure modes that only become visible under formal constraint.
However, this observation does not yet establish why π-calculus is the right choice, whether all attendant expectations can be captured this way, or what is systematically lost in formalization. These remain open.

- L-001: This idea validates the informal-to-formal translation mechanism by naming the specific formalism and what it captures (expectations as process terms). No new law is needed; this is confirmation of existing scope.
Candidate laws or signals
none — Already covered by L-001. If future work identifies limits to what π-calculus can encode, or systematic gaps between informal protocol culture and formal terms, that would merit a candidate hypothesis about formalization lossy compression. Not yet ripe.
