What this is
A critical analysis of two visibility suppression mechanisms in AI-mediated information systems: generative search (RAG-based answer synthesis) and shadow banning. The work documents how these practices divert traffic away from original content sources and reduce discoverability, threatening creator sustainability and open web ecosystems.
What I took from it
This paper identifies real operational constraints in the "new nature"—specifically, how AI systems reshape information flow through intermediation rather than explicit blocking. The mechanisms described (RAG traffic diversion, algorithmic visibility reduction) are implementation patterns rather than fundamental laws; they describe how centralized AI systems currently operate, not why such systems must operate this way.
The work documents downstream effects (creator sustainability threats, ecosystem fragmentation) but remains primarily descriptive and advocacy-oriented. It does not present a sustained theoretical argument about the generative principles governing visibility allocation in protocolized systems, nor does it isolate a causal mechanism absent from existing computational governance literature. The phenomena align with known dynamics: platform intermediation, attention concentration, and algorithmic ranking as control surfaces—already well-studied in platform studies and algorithmic governance.

CL-2606-1: Intermediation-as-suppression—Systems that synthesize or aggregate upstream content without attribution or referral become visibility sinks, redirecting value flows away from originators, structurally incentivizing creators to migrate to vertically integrated platforms.
